Zero-Emission Grid, LLC (ZEG) has an exciting opportunity for an Application Engineer – Power Systems EMT Modeling located in its India office. ZEG provides creative, cost-effective, and practical solutions to stakeholders in power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Application Engineer must be detailed oriented, organized, demonstrate drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth of ZEG’s impact toward decarbonizing the grid. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter with strong expertise in power systems dynamics, power systems linear and non-linear control, and modeling and tuning of inverter-based resources including their control systems.  

 

 

These are some examples of how you will help the team:

​

  • Build, modify, and tune PSCAD EMTDC models associated with various power systems components including inverter-based resources and FACTs.

  • Perform various simulations in PSCAD EMTDC to demonstrate the compliance of the developed models with applicable regional, national, and international technical requirements.

  • Preparing and reviewing generation and load interconnection applications.

  • Perform electrical power systems transient and sub-transient studies including switching studies, sub-synchronous studies, insulation coordination, and harmonic studies for medium-sized and large power systems.

  • Keep abreast of the latest analytical and computing techniques to increase the efficiency and accuracy of computer simulations.

  • Produce quality technical reports and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develop or modify Python and Fortran automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed, and accuracy of PSCAD EMTDC simulations.

  • stay up to date with the latest power system technological and technical trends and the latest industry standards and practices applicable to PSCAD EMTDC modeling of complex power systems including both AC and DC technologies.

  • Actively attend and meaningfully contribute to industry-renowned working groups and conferences to position himself/herself and the team as the frontier in power systems complex analytics.

  • Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities in terms of the development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements.

 

What you will need to succeed in your role:

​

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

  • In-depth understanding of the fundamentals of electric power systems, inverter-based resources, FACTs, and their control philosophy.  

  • Direct work experience in building, modifying, and tuning PSCAD EMTDC models associated with power systems components including inverter-based resources and associated local and plant-level controllers.

  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in Utility, ISO/RTO, and Power Systems Consulting environments.

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with PSCAD EMTDC

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills

  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English

What is Preferred?

 

  • Working knowledge of automation scripts including Python & Fortran.

  • Graduate-level degree with an emphasis on Electric Power Systems

  • Knowledge of North American ISO/RTO grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices, system impact studies, NERC standards such as TPL/MOD/CIP

  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with one or more of the following power system analysis software packages including TSAT, TARA, ASPEN, PSLF and PSS/E.
