Responsibilities
- Prepare preliminary design associated with LV, MV and HV components of various planned load and generation interconnection requests as per applicable US ISO/RTO standards and guidelines.
- Preparing preliminary Single-Line-Diagrams
- Utilize the preliminary design parameters to build, modify, and tune GE PSLF and PSS/E models associated with load and generation interconnection requests as per applicable US ISO/RTO standards and guidelines.
- Perform various power systems simulations in PSS/E including dynamic transient analyses to demonstrate the compliance of the developed models with applicable regional and national technical requirements.
- Preparing generation and large load interconnection applications including researching and filling out necessary technical forms and documents as per applicable regional requirements.
- Keep abreast of the latest analytical and computing techniques to increase the efficiency and accuracy of computer simulations.
- Produce quality technical documents, reports and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop or modify Python scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed, and accuracy of PSS/E simulations.
Requirements
- Minimum of master’s degree in electrical power system engineering from a prestigious institution.
- Published journal and conference articles related to power grid analytics focusing on renewable generation and transmission systems.
- Minimum 1 year of full-time working experience for US Utility, ISO/RTO, and Power Systems Consulting environments. No maximum experience limit.
- Minimum of 1 year of real-time work experience or 3 years of relevant graduate course work and research, that has resulted in published prestigious articles and/or thesis will be considered towards this requirement.
- In-depth and demonstrable understanding of the power systems basics related to steady state solutions, short circuit analysis and transient stability of the large power grids.
- In-depth and demonstrable understanding of the dynamics and controls of inverter-based resources and mechanism of action of their local and plant level controllers.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Python programming.
- Strong attention to details.
Preferred Skills/Experience
- In addition to PSS/E, demonstrable hands-on experience with one or more of the following power system analysis software packages including PSCAD, TSAT, TARA, ASPEN, PSLF.
- Knowledge of North American ISO/RTO grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices, system impact studies, NERC standards such as TPL/MOD/CIP.
- In-depth understanding of the fundamentals of other electric power system components including HVDC and FACTs devices.
- Immediate availability is preferred.
