ERCOT RPG Meeting: Key Points

Southwest Houston 345-kV Reliability Project (CNP): The $569 million project is set to enhance reliability by addressing thermal overloads in the Houston area. Preliminary results from ERCOT’s analysis showed no thermal, voltage, or unresolved power violations yet. Project to move into the next phase of maintenance outage analysis, with a final recommendation to be made in spring 2025.
Galveston System Transmission Upgrades (TNMP): The $133.7 million upgrade by TNMP, focused on the Galveston region’s load-serving capability and voltage security. Plans to connect 345kV sources into the Central Station and additional 138kV rebuilds. The project’s key objective is to fulfill long-term load growth and voltage stability, with construction set for early 2026.
Roscoe Area Upgrade Project (Oncor): The $83 million project proposed for Nolan County to address voltage violations caused by P6 contingencies. – Involves building a new 138kV transmission line, converting existing lines, and adding a substation in Roscoe. ERCOT scope review expected by the second quarter of 2025, with construction to begin in 2026.
Aransas Pass to Rincon 69-kV Line Rebuild (Oncor): This particular project will be pulled from discussion until the next RPG meeting in March.
ERCOT Independent Review (EIR) Update: ERCOT presented its updates on the Galveston and Roscoe area projects. There is ongoing review of generation additions, and load forecasts are being refined to accommodate regional load growth.
